THE NATIONAL PARCS LIVE THURSDAY JUNE 12TH

The National Parcs were born in the backwoods of Quebec, Malawi and B.C., but bred on Montreal streets buzzing with the noise of every nation on earth. For this groundbreaking CD/DVD album, they strip back down to basics, returning to their roots in the bush. The great outdoors becomes their studio, and their songs come alive with all-natural samples of wood splitting, sand slipping, paddles slapping, water dripping. Their cameras and microphones are trained on the trackless woods around them, but their ears have been trained on Grime and Hip Hop, Afrobeat and Baile Funk, American Spirituals and Malian Blues. The resulting Timbervision tracks are an invitation for the world to dance, starting with the half-remembered hum of our own backyards and smuggling in the best that the world has to offer.

JEROME DERRADJI “The American Boogie down” Thursday June 5th 10pm

French Algerian born, Jerome Derradji moved in the America six years ago. Now living in Chicago, Jerome created his very own independent label Still Music - a boutique label that has been making a few waves internationally since its inception. With early praise from DJ / producers like Laurent Garnier, Rainer Truby, Charles Webster and magazines like BPM, XLR8R, Grooves and Straight No Chaser to name a few, Still Music is proving itself to be one of the more exciting imprints around. Still Music has strong ties with rising talent such as Frenchman Bruno Hovart aka Patchworks and was the first label to release a record from Amp Fiddler’s Project CAMP AMP.

Eleven Years

Mercury Lounge, Eleven Years

I'm on the count down to the Mercury Lounge 11 year anniversary. The butterflies are fluttering deep in my stomach.

Every year this magical time approaches and almost surpasses my excitement for Halloween or even Christmas. There's something special about November 9th... Like red paraphernalia and disco balls should be lining the shelves at Walmart and Bay stores, surrounded by the faint sound of Soul jazz and House music filling the airwaves!!!

If I had my way it would be a International Holiday.

MercuryLounge.net 2.0

As we celebrate our 11 year anniversary I take the time to reflect on how much has changed since 1996! The most alarming discovery is the way we promoted Mercury then and now. To think, most of my friends and especially myself didn't even own a computer!

Fortunately Mercury Lounge has always maintained a tight network of people that have spread the old school word by hand & mouth! Hand made flyers were cleverly designed using creativity, instead of fancy software.

But, as we approach 2008 we have found a way to blend the old world with the nu!!!

We are so excited to announce the launch of our nu website! Bringing our friends information in a beautiful, artistic, and nu-tech level. A full blog, podcasts, interactive calendar, and gallery are in the works.

Look for all of our exciting new events to come!!!
