A 21st Century Soul Club The Mercury Lounge has been a Mecca for the arts in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, since its inception in November 1996. Its programming purports a musical vision steeped in the traditions of jazz and yet forward in its approach to encompass all its many derivatives. Through its dynamic programming, the Mercury Lounge has successfully connected the dots, uniting jazz with contemporary electronic break beat culture. Within its walls the very philosophy of jazz, that of change, abounds. It serves not only as a club, and live venue, but also for poetry readings, dance performances and art gallery. In 2009 Mercury Lounge combined and connected with the two clubs below it - The Collection and Bar 56 (OverKill) to merge into one entity forming one of Ottawa's largest clubbing scenes. Many people have been involved in ensuring it's legacy and most notably everyone who has ever come through its doors.
